Leitrim’s Longest Running Pipe Band

Founded in 1949, the Kiltubrid Pipe Band is without question Leitrim’s longest running pipe band. Having graced many a sporting field, parades, festivals and events  both in Ireland and abroad, their history and achievements are a wonderful documentation of life in Leitrim, Ireland and of our diaspora.

Trips Abroad

Of course the band has had many different members over the years – the anniversary publication contains some images of the band from early years as well as documenting big events such as travelling to the “Irish Festival” at Roundwood Park in London in 1988 or the St. Patrick’s Day trip to New York in 1987.

Trip to New York

In 1987, Kiltubrid Pipe Band Travelled to New York for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and marched down 5th Avenue. Footage of the events prior to their departure and whilst there shows how well they were received.

Documentary

Local radio presenter, production manager and documentary maker, Mike Mulvihill spoke to some of the original members of the band in 2019 and put together a wonderful documentary of memories, music and much more to celebrate the anniversary of the band.

There are many other resources stored in the local studies section of Leitrim Library in Ballinamore which document the success of the Kiltubrid Pipe Band over the years.
