Selton Hill Commemoration

The Selton Hill Ambush on the 11th of March 1921 was one of the most significant events in the War of Independence in Leitrim. It resulted in the largest large loss of life for the volunteers locally and it was also one of the largest loss of life for the IRA nationally. A monument was erected at Selton Hill in 1936 to mark the tragic event.

A Selton Hill Centenary Committee was formed in the summer of 2020 in order to help repair and upgrade the monument which had fallen into some disrepair and also to organise some events to mark the Centenary. This has been achieved with the Support of Leitrim County Council and the Decade of Centenaries Committee. Due to COVID-19 all the events have been pre-recorded and are available at the following link.
